So this was my week :)
Monday we had an awesome lesson for family home evening at the bishops house with some less actives from the ward. We had yummy tacos and listened to their oldest son teach about keeping the Sabbath day holy.
Tuesday we finally did our weekly planning because Sister Hall had been sick the past few days and we just never had gotten around to it... oops. we started our exchange that night as well.
Wednesday Sister Covaks and I did some painting at the salvation army building here in Wilson. It was a lot of fun! And we had yummy dinner at a cute burger place. I really like food:)
Thursday we did weekly planning again! haha this time on the day we were supposed to. It was so fast! Probably because we had just done it so nothing really changed...
Friday we picked up a new investigator! She is Muslim, so that's cool. It was neat to get to know more about her religion as we taught and pointed out the similarities. We gave service to one of our investigators by helping her set up for her daughters wedding reception. So many miracles happened! Kayla one of our investigators we haven't seen in a while texted and asked when we were going to come see her, we set up a time and invited her to come to the womens session of general conference as well as church. She said she would try really hard to come! And Angie another investigator said she would come to the conference AND bring a friend!! So that was awesome.
Saturday we taught people but we were just to excited for that nights ice cream social and conference. Finally the time came to go to the church. We had a really good lesson with Angie and her friend about modern day prophets and what this conference was going to be. At the conference we had FOUR INVESTIGATORS at the conference!!! And many less actives. The bishop was quite surprised to see some of them :) It was great!
Sunday church was awesome and we had three investigators who came. Sadly Kayla never came to the conference or church... we will get her next week. We went to the YSA activity that night and talked all about he importance of freedom of religion and speech. So ya that was my week.
A funny quote from Sister Whaley at the YSA activity was "Imma tell you why a woman shouldn't be president.... cause when that time of the month comes around, she is gonna blow up the world!" hahaha silly Sister Whaley!
Well I love all of you and hope you have a blessed week!
This week we had an investigator at two of our meals with members! So that was really fun. And as many of you know hurricane Mathew made its way up to North Carolina and hit Wilson as well as many other areas. We were safe, all the missionaries were well taken care of at members homes where we spent the night. Saturday morning and afternoon we still spent out proselyting! haha it was really wet. But we got a new investigator out of it! We spent some time at the library before we got kicked out because they were closing early for the storm. Luckily we had some service planned with near by members. So we went and helped them remove some wall paper. But during our service we got a call from our leaders telling us to head to our safe houses. The drive was a little scary but once we were with the Maltbas we were fine. We played games and watched meet the Mormons. I had never seen that movie. And then off to bed. I slept on the floor, not super comfy. Sunday morning was BEAUTIFUL!!! The sun was shining in the clear blue sky, the birds were chirping and the wind was blowing. Church had been canceled. So we stayed with the Maltbas and watched the priesthood session of general conference. They then fed us and sent us on our way. It was weird not having church. Now today has been even more beautiful! The weather is cooling off and the breeze is nice. It really feels like fall now. My favorite season! But now I can say that I was in a hurricane! Haha so fun.
Well I hope all y'all have a blessed week, and don't forget that I love you.
I am running out of time, but I had to tell all y'all that I was really wrong about the hurricane. It was awful. It ruined many roads and homes and entire cities are still full of water. We had the opportunity to go to Goldsboro this past Saturday to help with clean up. Have you ever heard of helping hands? That is who we are working with to get people some help. We are working as wards and missionaries to get the word out. We were able to go to one house after passing out flyers. This home was destroyed. The flood water mark was high above my head. When they first came back the owners had to go over by boat to even get to their home. We worked on gutting it. Everything had to go. All of their furniture, electronics, wedding pictures, baby momentous, everything. it was so sad. We were tearing up the floor in the evening. One of the members from the ward that was hauling their stuff to the dump said it was hard to watch the wife through all of their belongings in the trash. He also said the smell at the dump was horrible because of the over 300,000 dead turkeys and other animals that had drowned in the flood. We get to go back next week and help out some more. And it will probably continue like this over the next couple months. Send your prayers to those who were affected, they need them.
Love you all and have a good week, count your blessings and express your gratitude for them :)
I got to go on exchange with Sister Lyons!! It was great! We had so much fun being missionaries together again. It was like we had never stopped being companions... just took a break. She is such a wonderful leader and example to all the other missionaries. We did a lot of walking and talking to people. Turns out that both of us had the goal to talk to everyone. So we did. Or tried to. The first man that we talked to was playing golf on the soccer field. So that is how we started our conversation. Turns out that this man listens to Mormon tabernacle choir music on a regular basis! And he looks up their Christmas programs and watches them just for fun :) He was awesome! Sadly he was not interested in learning more about the church at this time. The other man that we talked to be kinda cornered. He had crossed the street and so we did too... haha it was funny. Turns out that he and his wife had been to Utah and temple square! They loved it and thought it was beautiful, but again sadly not interested at this time. we talked to other people as well but it is not usual that twice in one day we meet people who really know something about the church! So that was awesome. Other great stuff from the week, we got three new investigators from member referrals! Part member families are great, and it is so wonderful to watch them come to church or even return if they were less active! I love seeing people progress and take the steps towards their next ordinance and covenants! Well keep up the good work family! And remember missionary work doesn't just take place on this side of the veil, our ancestors also need us!
I love y'all so much! Have a blessed week!
The miracle from this week is the Harris family! So many of you know that as missionaries with a car we can only go so many miles per month. Well this month is getting tight. So we splurged and went to a far away place to go see some headquarter referrals. (People that order a book of Mormon or bible online) The first one wasn't home and must have forgotten our appointment with her, so we left the books with her mother. The next one we had not been able to get a hold of by phone but luckily they lived in the same neighborhood. It was a really nice neighborhood. One of the homes had a super cool pool in the backyard and we hoped our referral was that house. It wasn't, but it was their next door neighbor! So we knocked the door but no one answered. We left a note and just as we were about to leave a car pulled up at the cool house. So we thought we we would ask them if they knew when the Miniefields would be home. As we walked up we saw two boys outside playing and we asked if their mom was home, she then walked by... perfect timing! She was so sweet! We introduced her to the book of Mormon and talked with her a bit. She knows a member in the ward and was so excited about this new book of scripture. She had always been told by her grandpa that there were other books not in the bible but that were true. So we set up an appointment to come back and talk to her more! It was amazing! The Lord truly has a way of making sure you are in the right place at the right time, and the right things catch your attention. Even if we had to turn around three times on the road before we found the neighborhood...it was all to get the right timing. He works it out. So always be open to opportunities that are in your path. Be a member missionary! Talk to your friends because you never know when they might run into missionaries! Well, all y'all have a blessed week I love you!
So today we are having a baptism! Angie Fleming is getting baptized at 6:30! We are so excited. But other than that there isn't a lot to tell about this week. The work is progressing. We had a fun experience when our neighbor from across the street brought us dinner one night that we were just running home real fast to eat and then going back out. She is from India and so she made us Indian style American chicken sandwiches! They were really good. The new family I talked about last week was awesome and wants to meet again! They are elect! We also had our mission tour on Tuesday. Elder Randall K. Bennett came to the mission. I cant even tell you half of what he said but it was all amazing!! The spirit was so strong as he talked to us about HELPING others. I loved it. This coming Saturday we get transfer calls to find out if one of us is leaving... I am a little nervous that Sister Hall will be taken from me... she is such a great missionary and a wonderful companion. She will do great wherever she may go. But she has already been in this area for six months so it will probably be her that gets transferred if one of us leaves. I guess we will find out on Saturday. My advice for this week would be to love the missionaries. The holiday season can be rough for some people and it makes a difference when the members really love us. Learn their names, it is wonderful when members take the time to learn our names and it is always nice when they don't have to look at your name tag to know who you are. Be their friends, send pictures of them to their families if you can. If their families aren't grateful for the pictures the missionaries are. So that is my rant for the week love missionaries, learn their names. And send pictures of them :)
Well I love all Y'ALL and hope you have the most blessed week!
